If y’all have been following our story since arriving in Alaska… it’s been rough! (recap below)
🏔️💩🏨👼🏼👼🏼🏨💔
BUT by the grace of God we have endured and it’s starting to feel like all of our efforts are starting to have returns!🏃♀️💪🏼💗😃
THIS was a milestone… something we have dreamed of since before moving here 3 years ago (this month)… flying small airplanes was a BIG motivator for moving to Seward. (Sorry Mom).
Three long, heart-wrenching and almost-ready-to-throw-in-the-towel years. Maybe our dream of flying a small airplane in Alaska seems too lofty or maybe you’re shooting even higher.. whatever they may be, you have dreams too. And friend, this is a reminder that if you endure and don’t give up you will reap a harvest!
🏃♀️🌱💗
Run the race to win it. You have it in you!
RECAP: We had to abruptly leave our home country of 8 years (Hong Kong) in 2021 because of COVID, upon a crazy whim of a dream and a prayer leading to peace and a sense of calling, we jumped in the deep end and bought @littlebearlaneak. Tensions were high as I over promised to my business partner and husband to getting our nightly rental business up and running by the first summer (and failing miserably) AND I was pressed and compromised by buying new (I sooo prefer second hand) & not-as-natural-as-I-hoped furniture rather than carefully curating it to the T. I didn’t realize it then, but our marriage was in a rough spot with a lot of unnecessary biterness from both sides.
Our first fall in Alaska, I lost a baby at 8 weeks pregnant. 😔 That’s what I get for getting pregnant 2 weeks after having COVID !
Our first Christmas we naively had family up before we figured out the kinks of our off-grid home and had a septic issue with a house of 7! Needless to say it was a crappy situation.
New Years 2022 I was in the ER with kidney pain.
April 2022 I found out at my 8 weeks sonogram and saw the cutest little heart shaped heart beat AND found out I had a large cyst at the tail end of my pancreas after asking the ultrasound technician to check out my kidneys because they still ached since my ER visit.
At my 10-week sonogoram there was no heartbeat. Upon testing, I was diagnosed with the thyroid disease Hashimoto’s.
My husband delayed training after losing the second baby but had to go eventually, the 2-month training turned into a multi-month training. All while I started hosting our first guests @littlebearlaneak which would NOT have been possible without @chrissellstucson! Thanks mama 😘
My kidneys stopped aching when I went on the AIP diet. I later found out I had Epstein Barr Virus and mycotoxins in my blood (not surprised with how moldy HK was). I started working with a functional medicine doctor and eating organic (when I could) vegetable and wild caught meats.
January 2023 while in AZ to design and furnish a rental unit AND for surgery of my cyst… I started having double vision… I had to cancel the surgery. The Opthamologist said it could be a stroke, a brain tumor OR MS. It was the latter.
Scared of being alone while my husband traveled for work I had friends and family come up… convinced we should move back to AZ. BUT Summer 2023 came around and we ran two nightly rentals. We got a nice rhythm and had really content guests.
I got on a B-cell depleting therapy, Ocrevus. I was convinced I was going to have a seizure during the infusion… but I was fine! I even hiked Mount Alice the next day.
Fall 2023 we took our first international vacation as a family 🥰 To England for a wedding and Portugal because it was close… and to practice our Portuguese. It was restorative to say the least.
Somewhat begrudgingly I put Little Treasure in public school… thinking he would be in kindergarten, but because of a clerics mix up from homeschooling the year before and his age he had to be in first grade. It was rough but he adjusted!
Winter 2023 we got to bring Theo to the origin of his favorite food, sushi! That’s right Japan. I also went back to Hong Kong for the first time in almost 3 years.
With a stirring in my heart and a desire to get to the bottom of root issues, I decided to pull Little Treasure out of school and go to Arizona for a sunny hiatus before the busy 2024 summer. I saw several amazing alternative practitioners and had restorative family time and even went to @luylsummit to invest in my entrepreneurial efforts.
TODAY my TPO antibodies (key indicator for Hashimoto’s) are normal, I am virtually symptomless of MS. I am joyfully, confidently AND energetically homeschooling Little Treasure (we are learning Japanese and writing business plans for this summer!) AND my marriage has never been better! I am so grateful for my husband and the intention. he pours into our family.
